This study uses evidence qualitative research with Designer-entrepreneurs (D-entrepreneurs) to describe a third subprocess, which we refer as Designer’s Mindset Transition (DMT), can either hinder or propel other subprocesses. Thirty-seven participants, including eleven D-entrepreneurs in product-based start-ups, participated study. Four designer-entrepreneurs’ mindsets were identified within DMT subprocess: The Artisan, Configurator, Opportunity Seeker, Design Leader. They followed progression that moves Designer-entrepreneur effectual logic (means-oriented) towards causal (goal-oriented). Evidence demonstrates designers starting Artisan mindset not always driven by their purported user-centric approach. Instead, key drivers priorities, interests, beliefs, established at outset venture.
